Packing for Paris

Packing is a nightmare! I hate having to sort out exactly what I want to wear on holiday. I’m the type of person who likes to stand in front of the wardrobe and stare at my clothes for a few minutes before trying a couple of outfits on and then picking what to wear. But no, on holiday you have to plan in advance. You can’t change your mind once you’re there, you have to know exactly what to wear on what day / evening and it’s so hard.

Especially when you’re not sure about the weather. The weather is Paris is similar to London and unpredictable – it might be nice and springlike or it might rain so I need to cover all bases.

I’m off to Paris tomorrow with my mum until Monday to celebrate my 28th birthday on Sunday and I can’t wait! I just wish there wasn’t so much to sort in advance – taxi’s, changing money, charging electronic items (must not forget the camera!) and the hated packing. I know I will forget something, sigh.

I am looking forward to the trip though – I intend to sightsee, shop and eat splendid things. I have some birthday money hidden in cards for me so I shall be on the look out for a nice treat while I’m there. I can’t wait to tell you all about it when I come back! I just hope I can decide what the hell to wear ….

Do you hate packing too?
See you when I get back :)

  2. I would love to go to Paris one day (sigh). Packing is tedious; I never know what to take, and then I end up taking too many clothes and only wear half of them!
Anyway, Happy Birthday for your day, and have a wonderful time. Tell us all about it when you get back.

  4. Aww jealous of your trip to Paris! I always have to take tons of stuff with me. I stayed with a friend for one night last weekend and had to take three bags. And I always have two bags with me where ever I go anyway, my handbag and then millions of “emergency” things in a backpack which I have on the back of my wheelchair. Packing definitely is a nightmare, you always want to cram so much into your suitcase but don’t want your clothes to crease. Have a great weekend :) xx

  7. Firstly.. Have a wonderful Birthday!
Secondly.. Paris! Oh how I love Paris :-D
Have a wonderful time – take warm clothes especially if you’re planning on lots of sightseeing, the Bateaux Mouches river tours are great but really cold.
Always thought the secret to good packing is to wear versatile clothes.. basic that can be dressed up or down depending.
Maybe the fact I spent over a year living out of a suitcase makes it easier for me?

    • Thanks :) Yes I think layers are key for this trip. I def want to do a boat trip, it always seems colder on the river, I shall take a scarf for that one! Wow living out of a suitcase sounds pretty horrendous to me right now lol

  12. Oh my gosh…I always over pack so that I am prepared for all possibilities. Have a great trip and Happy Early Birthday!! I am so jealous…it seems to me from this side of the Atlantic that it’s so much easier for you Europeans to take a vacation in a foreign city by simply making a quick trip!

    • It’s good to be prepared :) Thank you so much. America is so huge that it’s a big trip to different places for you guys in the same country, over here it’s mush easier to pop to another country but lots to discover and explore both ways!

  13. Haha I’m exactly the same, I hate not having the possibility to change my mind on my wardrobe! The trick is to pack maybe two too many tops, then you at least feel like you have some options ;)
Have a wonderful weekend in Paris!! You should visit Shakespeare and company – a LOVELY bookstore by the Saine (http://www.shakespeareandcompany.com/), I bet you can spend your birthday money there!
And happy birthday on Sunday :D

  15. What I don’t understand is how you can make everything fit GOING to a destination, and even if you don’t buy anything there, why is it you can’t get everything BACK INTO the same luggage?

    That has aways vexed me.

I hate packing, too. I always have the wrong things with me.

But I love Paris! You must try macarons at Laduree on Rue Royale (I think – it’s near the Madeleine, anyway).

    Have fun and Happy Birthday!

  17. Ooooh you’re getting me excited with your trip while reading this post Vix! Dont worry too much, I think a few good pairs of jeans and comfy tops and overcoats can cover pretty much all bases. Maybe a pair of boots to tuck your jeans in for rainy days. Enjoy your trip and happy birthday in advance! Hope you have a blast with your mom! Can’t wait for you to blog about your trip and share pictures from Paris :)
