I have a confession to make – I am becoming slightly obsessed with watching the Kardashian’s TV shows. Three are being shown over here on the Viva channel – the original Keeping up with the Kardashians and the spin-offs in Miami and New York.
I’m not usually a fan of reality TV shows, not least because they’re usually setup and not “real”. I watched some of the Osbournes but they annoyed me and I watched Katie Price’s once before she got mean but I’ve avoided The Only Way is Essex and didn’t really get The Hills.
There’s something sucking me into the Kardashians though – maybe it’s their ability to laugh at themselves, their many rows followed by cute make-ups, the fact they actually work and seem to be shrewd businesswomen and their many struggles with love. Whatever it is, I find the show hilarious and oddly compelling.
I’m even tempted to buy their book, don’t judge me

(OK, so I’ve seen one thing involving a Kardashian, but I shan’t comment on that further here. *cough*) I know that their name comes up often on the morning radio stations here in L.A., principally prefaced by words like, “When do we get to stop hearing about these people?!” This always tickles me, since the askers are the only place I hear about the Kardashians. Usually!

/ May 20, 2011Okay, so when I traveled to New orleans just a few months ago…we visited our friend who lived in some fancy apartments. So we go to the pool deck area that views the river… it’s night and they all look up and begin counting the floors to the only light on…hey Reggie Bush is home. Then our friend looks at the pool and says “I wonder how many times Kim Kardashian swam naked here.” I guess she was dating that football player.
Of course, I had no clue who any of these people were and they nearly had a cow when I said “Who’s Reggie Bush?” (especially living in California) at least I’d heard of the Kardisian show and seen the girls plastered all over magazines while waiting to purchase groceries. I don’t follow football.

/ May 21, 2011Thus far I’ve been able to resist the temptation of reality television. It’s not really my bag, but I can see the allure. It’s that naughty little part of ourselves that just can’t help but watch these people behave like crazies. I think it’s the same thing where people rubberneck to look at an accident. On the one hand it’s terrible on the other you want to know what happened. It’s human, no judgments here Love. Although it you do buy the book…that’s like slow mo rubbernecking, you have to go our of your way to get it and then you’re parting with good money, good money which you could buy an eyeshadow with (OK, so I have my own weird problems, yes I factor money in terms of makeup).

/ May 21, 2011I have a love/hate relationship. I hate that I don’t know whats going on with them and love when I find a marathon and watch for hours. But then hate that I wasted a few hours of my life. My friend met Kim last wk in Miami (she is a journalist who was at a promo event) and I asked her what she was like in person. She said she was very sweet but she looked air brushed….even in person, freaky.

/ November 12, 2011haha I love that show! I think your right, the allure is the fact that this family can have fights but then laugh at themselves. I also love the fact that the sisters all so different in personality and their lives and that they work hard!
Though I did find it sad that Kim and Kris’ marriage did not work out after only 72 days.
