Inked

Well, I did it! I got my first tattoo at the weekend:

The tattoo is on my side above my hip. It’s still a bit red and tender as you can see in the photo but that should fade soon.

I got this one to remind me to believe in myself and my dreams and the butterfly is there because I love butterflies and they symbolise freedom and beauty to me.

I was really scared going to the tatoo parlour, I dragged my mum with me as I’m a baby but it didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would and I’m quite proud of myself for getting through it!

Who else has a tattoo?

  2. gorgeous tattoo! I’m a bit of a wimp about tattoos and stuff. Not only the pain, but how it’d look when I get old & crinkly….

  3. Love it. :)

I don’t have any, but Ba.D. came home with a small one on his inner arm after an event last year. The tattoo itself is just a little TV inlaid by the number of days he was on TV (I think it was 16?), but somehow? It still ends up being sexy. This continues to surprise me, because I’d never thought of tattoos as sexy before.

In my late teens, I wanted to get a band of knotwork tattooed around my wrist and/or ankle. If I were to get a tattoo now, that wouldn’t be it, not that I’m sure what “it” would be!

  4. I am scared…does it hurt? I went with a guy to get one…and I saw blood on his chest…

    • It feels like a scratch and hurt more on longer lines like the butterfly wings and vibrated over the bone but really not as bad as I thought it would be. Manageable! I didn’t look at the blood but mum said there was hardly any!

  7. Yay! I’m so proud of you for getting it! I have a sketch drawn up and know exactly what I want; even have a gift certificate from a tattoo parlor to go towards it….Yet, I still haven’t gotten it. I know just where I’d like to get it, on my left wrist as a reminder of those I love and miss on a daily basis. The only thing holding me back is my profession… I’ve heard such mixed opinions about those in the field of education having tattoos in visible locations. Many say that I’ll never get a teaching job in the public school system if I get that tattoo in that location…. I know in my heart that being inked will not have a negative impact on my teaching abilities, but those interviewing me may have different opinions. So, for now I wait… until I decide which way to go will be the best for me!

I LOVE your tat chica! So pretty :)

    • Oh wow it’s tough I can see what people mean I bet there are some interviewers that would pass in the school system. To be honest that’s why I got mine somewhere hidden in case of work issues. Hopefully one day you can get it though!

  10. Oh wow, what a news!!! So when’s a next one, because I heard that it’s addictive?
I wouldn’t get one because I get bored very easily and I know I wouldn’t like what I had tatooed in a year or two…

Congrats on your beautiful new tattoo! I would do something with a butterfly too, but I don’t like the permanence of a tattoo. Also, there’s a little religious issue.

    Enjoy – and Believe!

  16. That’s is beautiful Vic! I don’t have any tattoos and probably never will…but if I did I’d get one in the same location as yours and it would either be a dragonfly or some sort of Celtic symbol.

  17. Cute tattoo. I have a tattoo on my forearm a tribute for me and my husband. A lot of people were all OMG you are getting that, what if you and Mando don’t work out?? I said then I will look at it and think to myself. I was so happy when I got this and in love. I don’t regret it at all. I can’t wait to get more. I am a baby when it comes to pain, but I held myself together and it helped that my husband and my best friend were there with me. :0)

  18. Yay. I love the tat. Very nice. They are sore for a bit after, aren’t they? I have three. My latest one (just a few months ago) is a cross with Hope, Faith, and Love on it. It’s my life verse, so I figured I’d make it permanent, right? LOL. I like yours. Believe…such a powerful word. LOVE it!!!

  21. Vix… I absolutely LOVE it!! I noted a few similarities between us a while back – well here’s another. I haven’t gotten one yet, but for 3 years now have always said it would be a butterfly. To me it represents new beginnings and freedom. I love your wording and the butterfly too!! :)

I had one tattoo on my hip and another one I am in the process of getting removed–its about 90% gone so just have to wait it out a little more to finish!

  33. I got a tattoo on the weekend, its my first one, and I think it will be my last one too. I am one of these people that tries something and once its done, the novelty wears off…lol. It didn’t hurt anywhere near the amount I thought it would. I think if you just go in with the mindset that its the most unbearable pain ever then you will be pleasantly surprised and it makes it so much easier. :-)
