Yes, I’m a little cynical about Valentine’s Day – let’s face it it’s a day made for spending money and love should be shared and celebrated every day. Plus I’m usually single when it comes around so I can’t even pretend to be annoyed with a bouquet of red roses
But I saw this Disney film short a few weeks ago being shared around the internet and I kept it to post on here today. I don’t even think the biggest cynics would fail to have their heart warmed by it.
So Happy Valentine’s Day to all my followers!
Ps: If this failed to cheer you up, try these instead
So, tell me – are you a Valentine’s fan or cynic?

/ February 14, 2013There’s a been there done that age… after that you don’t give a damn to Valentine’s day or even new year day… You simply sit with your friends and enjoy the scotch with them

/ February 14, 2013A fan of the simple expressions of love, of a gift with meaning. Of the symbols and the words between us.

/ February 15, 2013The problem is, people buy into the sales pitch, and get disheartened by it. Instead of thinking about the nice simple expressions of love. A walk holdng hands, a hand drawn loveheart. It is no use complaining about cheesy overpriced tat if you still go out and buy it. It is there because people buy it. You have a choice!
I am a romantic, I believe the expression of love is for the whole year round and how you look after and treat someone day to day. I do like on Valentines to write and do something special. But it generally doesn’t involve money, just words and deeds. And time of course, the one resource people don’t want to give to someone else.
Sorry this turned into a rant, but we need to change our ideas, it is a commercial rip off because most people can’t be bothered to make it something different.
I am sorry for everyone without a valentine, go and make someones day, in France they leave a small blue flowers for someone. This gets paid forward, maybe they will continue it. And someone, with this simple gesture will have a happy memory. Not commercial, just a smile.
I’m going to stop now and sit somewhere quiet for a while, I’m grumpy ‘cos my shoulder hurts.

/ February 14, 2013I hate this holiday. “Show her you love her by buying this overpriced, low-quality necklace she’ll never wear and doesn’t want!” As I learned, even jerks usually go nice on this one day. Love is the every day, the small things. Love is filling my truck with gas or folding the laundry I’m too tired to fold or bringing home my favorite coconut macaroons when I’m not expecting just because I’m feeling blue or buying a DVD I’ve wanted for a long time and couldn’t find. Buying me industrial-grade diamonds to feed the scam of a jewelry system just because a date on a calendar and some commercials says so means nothing.
To be fair, same goes for Christmas too. I don’t want people to buy from me out of obligation. If they, or I, see something and feel compelled, great. But let’s not trade obligations and sink ourselves into mutual debt.
That said, Disney shorts are always amazing. Another great one is the Jackelope. Its message about being happy in your own skin is wonderful.

/ February 15, 2013I agree on Valentine’s but I do love Christmas! I think the would is a better place with Disney in it
Off to watch that short now!

/ February 14, 2013I couldn’t agree with you more, and I’ve never been a fan of Valentine’s Day. My OH and I made a decision not to bother several years ago. I don’t think it’s really designed for me anyway — I don’t like roses or even champagne that much, and I eat chocolate all the time anyway!
Victoria-writes
/ February 15, 2013Haha I’m with you on the chocolate eating

/ February 15, 2013Awwwww. That’s the sweetest thing I’ve watched in quite some time. Disney sure knows how to make ‘em. Personally I like Valentine’s… for the chocolate.

/ February 16, 2013I used to hate Valentine’s Day because it was a reminder of my relationship status. Now, I think it should be a day to celebrate love in all its forms.

/ February 18, 2013I don’t mind it so much now that I get to focus on my kids and how they celebrate it in school. Otherwise, I never really got into it either.
