TBR

I’m nearly at the end of my TBR (to-be-read) pile of books. I’m not sure when I started to build up a pile of books to read rather than just having the one I’m actually reading but once it begins, it’s hard to get the pile down – you might see a bargain you have to snap up or win a copy of a book and suddenly there’s ten or more to read. Usually I like having more than one to choose because there’s options depending on my mood or if I finish a book I have one ready to go but sometimes a pile can be off-putting – it feels like a to-do list you have to get through and you’ll see or hear about a new book and wish you could be reading that one instead. We always want what we can’t have after all :)

I think I’m going to try to stick to a happy medium when it comes to the pile in future – more than one but no more than five so I can still be excited to read the books I have and if a new one catches me eye, I won’t feel bad about buying it.

I have brought three so far for my new pile – one I have heard mentioned a lot over the years and I keep walking past it in the bookshop, thinking I really must read that and two newer books that have been talked about a lot online and look like my kind of thing.

Do you guys have a TBR pile, how big is it? How do you decide what to read next? Pictures if you have them!

  1. As you know my to-read pile is massive, I have 200-odd books on it! Although as you’ve mentioned sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming I love having so many to choose from, I can’t imagine not having one. :)

Currently I’m away on student exchange, so physically I didn’t bring any books with me, but, electronically, I brought around 9 books. I have set a goal to NOT read any other books until I read “The Pillars of The Earth” I’m the kind of person who normally reads up to 4 books at the one time, and with doing that I have to constantly re-read over previous pages/chapters.

    My book list:
    1) Eve and Adam by Michael Grant and Katherine Applegate
    2) Teardrop by Lauren Kate
    3) The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
    4) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Lasson
    5) Divergent by Veronica Roth
    6) Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
    7) The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
    8) Captive by Venessa Garden
    9) and Whiteout by Ken Follet

I hope I like and enjoy all of these books, have you read any of them? :)

    • I’ve read Divergent, which I loved although the end of the trilogy has divided opinion, I’ve read Daughter of Smoke and Bone, which did grip me but it kind of changes in tone towards the end and I haven’t picked up the sequel, I’ve read Lauren Kate’s Fallen series but am waiting for the paperback of Teardrop, I’m interested to hear what you think of The Book Thief as I read the first three chapters then put it down, maybe I wasn’t in the right mood for it! I hope you enjoy reading and your student exchange!

I mainly decided to read Divergent because I saw that it has/is being made into a movie and the trailer looks pretty interesting, and I’ve read books that are sort of like Divergent. I started to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone a few months ago, but, I was too busy at that time to ever get past the first few pages – I remember that I liked what I read so hopefully I’ll like the rest of the book. (fingers crossed) Me too, I liked the Fallen series, Lauren Kate is a fairly good writer so I would presume that Teardrop would be just as good as her other series. Like Divergent I decided to buy The Book Thief based on the trailer, I don’t know how I’ll go reading it – I don’t normally like books that are set back into the future..But, I hope I can get past that and enjoy the book anyways. Thank you! I am enjoying my exchange so far, I’m only 4 almost 5 days into it. :)

  3. The Secret History was amazing — you should blog about it when you finish it. :)

  4. my to read pile currently consists of The Hunger Games (I know, totally late to the party with this one) and Falling Man. I’ve read the first chapter, so I guess its partly to be read!
