I’ve been reading a far few supernatural books recently as the next books in series I’m hooked on have come out – thumbs up to Deadlocked – the eleventh Sookie Stackhouse book, City of Lost Souls – the fifth Mortal Instruments books, and Destined – the final Wings book.
Phew. After that supernatural fest, I was eager to delve into some contemporary YA and a dose of reality. I found two gems to share on here:
Elizabeth Eulberg – Take a Bow
Elizabeth is a big music fan and puts that to good use in this story about a performing arts school. We follow four characters from their points-of-view and as their stories intertwine we get romance, jealously, back-stabbing and lots of music. Overall it’s fun and inspiring. I read it quickly and it left me smiling.
This is the third book I’ve read by Ms Eulberg and I love her happy ever afters!
Sarah Dessen – The Truth about Forever
My crit partner Elizabeth recommended I read Sarah Dessen so I picked this one about Macy Queen, a teen girl recovering from her Dad’s sudden death. When her perfect boyfriend leaves her alone for the summer, she finds new friends and love but mostly, she finds herself. This book was realistic and touching – you sometimes want to kick Macy for not taking control but when she does, you want to give her a big cheer. And who knew a game of Truth or Dare could be so life changing?
I will be reading more from Ms Dessen after this.
Next on my TBR list:
- Alyson Noel – Fated
- Jenny Downham – You against Me
- Richelle Mead – Bloodlines 2
What are you guys reading?
