blogging, Personal, Writing

Group hug

When I started this blog, I started writing as anonmously as possible. This was partly due to fear and partly a lack of confidence in displaying who I really was to the world. I was scared people would laugh at my attempts at writing so it was easier to hide as much of my true self as I could.

Over the past three months, my confidence and enjoyment of blogging have increased massively. This is in no small part thanks to the supportive community I have found on here and the feeling that I’ve been welcomed into it with open arms.

The result of this increased confidence, is a desire to share more of my true self. I want you guys to know me like I am getting to know you and to read this blog with a sense of who I am. Not many of my friends or family know about my blog and whilst I’m not ready to share my posts on Facebook to them or anything, I wouldn’t be ashamed if one of them found and read this. This is a big leap forward for me!

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face… we must do that which we think we cannot.
Eleanor Roosevelt

I got my highest daily hits yesterday (299 woo!) and I realised that whilst getting more readers, subscribers and comments is pretty amazing, I’m most proud of how I am opening up on here and not being so afraid to say – hello, this is me 🙂

Q and A session

With the above in mind, I wanted to open the floor up to you guys and ask you if there’s anything you want to hear me talk about. This could be about my own life or my thoughts on more general topics. Either way, please add your questions to the comments below and I’ll do my best to answer them in a future post.

Whilst I still have a long way to go on my blogging and writing journey, I am less afraid now and pretty excited about where this may end up in the future. So help me out guys and push me further on and send over your questions!

And finally, a big thank you to everyone who is reading this and posting their thoughts. You’re changing my life for the better.

Hugs and kisses,

Vix

  1. Oh, I don’t know.. I know.. what made you turn to writing a blog in the first place? For me it was a space I could let off steam without offending those I care about. ( And I’ve had my blog for many years and I still keep it hidden from Facebook )

  2. Blogging seems to have that effect on us – to open up and not be afraid to say “this is me”. Your confidence is growing with each post you write, and comments from readers is inspiring you. It’s a great place, isn’t it? I love it here, and feel that I have grown because of my blogging.
I would like to read more about the area you live, your surroundings, and your personal likes and dislikes.

  3. Hugs to you Vix. Wow, 299 views! I’m still hovering around 100. Uh oh, the green-eyed monster just reared it’s ugly head (see my J post LOL). I love your blog, as you know. I don’t have any questions at the moment.

    1. Yeah, I was going to comment on the 299 views, too! I’ve been blogging for close to 2 years and my highest day has had a 76 view count. I only blog once a week. Used to blog twice a week, but I took 2 months off to concentrate on my 2nd novel, and now post once a week. Oddly enough, I’ve gotten more hits now that I blog less. Can we say “ironic”?

My question: Is vixter your real name or related to your real name? It seems unusual (to me) and very, very cool.

  4. I loved this! I started off not saying a lot about myself personally either, mine was mostly for fear because my mom is super paranoid about people on the internet but then I realized I really don’t have anything to be afraid of and I do think that blogging has helped me really be more open with myself too! I also don’t share my posts on Facebook but I do let some of my friends know, even though I don’t think they ever read it but I really enjoy blogging. My question for you is what made you choose WordPress to start your blog? 🙂

  5. This is exciting! I wish you well on your slow reveal. Sounds like you are doing this perfectly.
Since I am a new reader, I clicked over to your “about me” page. Oh, shopping and the supernatural! Two of my fav. topics!
Q: What are your “must have”s for summer?

  6. Yeah, very exciting about your willingness to open up! It’s funny b/c when I first started blogging, i didn’t tell any of my friends or family. Somehow it seemed easier to write to a bunch of strangers. I still don’t post my blogs on Facebook or anything, but have been letting more people know about it. So I say great for you! Look forward to learning more about you!

    1. I know what you mean about easier with strangers, I guess you feel they’re less likely to judge or disagree with what you say as they don’t know how you are offline. Great to hear you’re opening up too and thanks for the encouragement. I hope you like what you see 🙂

  7. You won’t believe, but I was thinking about writing post about it this morning!! I want my blog to be totally anonymous, but I realise that if anybody who knows me looks at it they will know who I am! That’d be it for privacy 🙂
Keep writing, we love reading about you!

  8. Yay 299 hits, that’s so awesome!!! And funny how we all start out thinking we can be anonymous until we’ve realized we’ve started leaking out pieces of ourselves on the internet.

As for a question, let’s see, what is your biggest fear? For some reason fears brings people even closer, shared neuroses and all.

  9. Ahh, that was nice!

Sorry, I’ve been MIA lately. Trying to redo my site, etc.

I think it’s fabulous that you’re opening up and should not be embarrassed in the least? How are you ever going to become a published writer if you don’t share!

We enjoy your posts! I’d love to see you mix your thoughtful posts, with getting personal posts. Like pics of you and friends, etc.

It’s so much fun to get to know each other, so when you post something serious, we understand better your thoughts and feelings. As if we are friends. I’d love to say “One day, I’m going to England, and while there I’m going to see my friend, Vicky.”

And when we saw each other, we’d be able to chat like old pals. I’d know what beverages you’d like alcohol, tea/coffee whatever.

That’s what I’m hoping for out of my blogging experience. Talk like you’re friends.

  10. THis post is awesome V! First off congrats on the 299 views yesterday… You’ve got me beat by far and I started blogging a whole six months before you! My highest day was 146.. So whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!

Writing my blog has totally helped me in the sharing of my thoughts and feelings with others. I’ve always had a tendency to let things bottle up and keep ’em in which does me no good. Writing had always been a release for me, sharing though was something I never thought I’d do until I just did it last June. I do share through Facebook and from feedback I’ve received on there the only people that seem to be reading it are close family and friends… that’s fine by me.

Starting my blog was probably one of the best decisions I ever could have made…. The support, feedback, advice and friendships I have gained through writing here mean sooooo much to me. There are some I’ve met on here that I already feel as if they know and understand me better than those I’ve know for many years in the real world. How cool would it be to one day actually get to meet some of you???? Pretty awesome in my book… I gotta get on that plane to see you and Laura! 🙂

I think it’s AWESOME that you’ve begun to open up here and share more of yourself and your story with us… I so enjoy getting to know you a bit better as I think we really are so much alike!

As for questions… (Forgive me if you’ve already written about any of these or someone else has already asked). What was the toughest decision you’ve ever had to make; If you got one “do-over” what would it be? OR of course something music related like top 10 albums of all time or best concert experience. Take your pick chica!

Girl, group hug back at ya… You too are changing my life for the better. 🙂

    1. Aw thanks Megan, I love how this is getting you to share too and I am loving getting to know you too. I’d love to meet be day and I agree we seem really alike 🙂 poor world eh?!! Intriguing questions thanks chick xx

  11. Group hug indeed! I feel the same way about my blog. It took me a while (and several other anonymous blogs) before I felt confident enough to “out” myself to friends and family.

I second egills question: What made you start blogging?

  12. congrats about the hits! 🙂 I just need to find out how to make my blog more popular, I just LOVE writing (and I want to make a PROPER shot at it)!

    xx

      1. I’ve been doing that since day 1 and still not getting very many visitors/comments. I get a few, but I want to be “at the top”, if you know what I mean…!!

        xx

      2. anything that doesn’t include facebook or twitter (or social networking) is good for me – I’ve been off them since last summer! 😀

Hopefully updating the tags will be better for the site!! 😉

I am writing my autobiography at the moment; and I am thinking about writing a novel that’s loosely on me…. hmm…!!

        xx

      3. Yeah I don’t use them much either. Tags are really useful so people can find the topics you are writing about. WordPress is good as they have tag pages and you can get on them and peopel can find you more easily. Sounds exciting, good luck with it!
