Q and A

Thanks to everyone who posted a question yesterday, here are my answers, I hope I covered everything!

The name is vixter … or is it?

Nope. Sorry everyone this is not my real name! My birth name is in fact Victoria, which my family call me but friends and colleagues use Vicky – it’s quite hard to get people to use my full name as it’s so long! People have also called me Vic, Vix or Vixter. When I set up my email, there were so many Victoria’s or Vicky’s, I used Vixter and for the same reason, have used it on here as well. I’m glad you guys think it sounds cool!

If we ever meet

If we ever meet in the “real world”, which I hope we do, you might need to know where to take me and what to order….

If we went to a coffee shop, I would order tea or hit chocolate – I do not drink coffee! I would also appreciate a cupcake or muffin as it just seems wrong not to order one.

If we went to a bar, I’m not a big drinker anymore (I was at Uni and probably killed all my brian cells and liver) so I would get tipsy very easily and quickly – I am a cheap date! I would order either Pinot Grigo white or rose or a vodka with lime and lemonade. If we were in America, I’d stick to wine as you guys make your drinks way too strong and when I ordered vodka with lime and lemonade in Vegas, they gave me still lemonade and a lime wedge not fizzy lemonade and lime cordial, which we do here. If it’s a sunny lunch, a jug Pimms and lemonade would be lovely.

If we went to a restaurant, I like Italian, curry (but mild ones) and grill type food e.g. steak, burgers or club sandwich. I’m not a big Chinese / Thai fan and don’t eat much seafood or sushi. I don’t like bananas, mushrooms, ham (but I love bacon and pork chops), tomatoes (I like tomato sauces or soup but not whole tomatoes), seafood beyond cod and tuna, smoked salmon. I promise I’m not picky tho 🙂 I usually order a main meal and dessert as most starters contain the food I don’t like and there’s always room for sweet food, there’s a different part of your stomach for that. My favourite desserts are apple crumble and custard, chocolate brownie, cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding.

Biggest fear

As I’ve said before, I’m terrified of fireworks / explosions, I also don’t like heights , doctors / hospitals or fast rides at theme parks. God I sound like a freak now. But probably my biggest fear is looking back on my life and regretting it for some reason. I don’t want to think “what if?’

The regrets of yesterday and the fear of tomorrow can kill you.

3 things before I die / Where do I want to be in five years time?

This was the toughest question to answer. I’ve learnt that things don’t usually turn out the way you plan them and when you’re younger, I saw 28 as really old but now I’m here I don’t feel that old and haven’t done the things I thought I would by now. I suppose my general life goals would be to publish a novel (and obviously hit the best seller list and become the next JK Rowling); meet someone special fall in love and get married and have babies (although childbirth freaks me out), move out of home and get a place of my own or with that special someone; get a dog; see more of the world especially America and have a job that I love and am passionate about. Mostly though to be happy and healthy!

Toughest decision

I think the biggest decision I’ve made so far in my life was to go to University. Most of my friends went but we all wanted to do different things and chose different places. I ended up going to Warwick University, which was one of the furthest away from home on my shortlist and it was really scary to go. I hated it at first and was really homesick but I ended up having fun and getting a good 2.1 degree in Sociology.

One ‘do over’

I do believe that most experiences make you who you are and being able to go back and change things isn’t always a good idea. There have been moments that I look back and think – why do you do that, what were you thinking?! An example would be the end of my longest relationship (just over 3 years) and the fact that I tried to cling on when I should have moved on. Looking back, I can see it was totally not the relationship I want for myself and it was definitely a good thing it ended but at the time it was hard to see that clearly. Now I’m going to wait for the right person so I suppose it was a blessing in disguise because now I won’t settle for second best – I want true love please 🙂

Top 10 albums

I could probably write hundreds of posts about music as I love it and picking my favourite albums is pretty tough but I’d have to pick the ones that symbolise a moment of time in my life and are signficant to me because of that ….

  • Spice Girls – Spice / Spiceworld – I’ve cheated and included two as one. I was pretty obsessed with the Spice Girls as a teenage girl, I loved their catchy songs and feisty attitude and they made you believe anything was possible. I went to see them live of their reunion tour and it was really good fun. They will always have a place in my musical heart.
  • Alanis Morrisette- Jagged Little Pill – one of the first albums I brought and I totally connected to her angst even though I’d never had a boyfriend at that point, I think I knew even back then that most boys were likely to break ym heart and treat me badly 🙂 I still think this is a brilliantly crafted album.
  • Madonna – Ray of Light – I’ve always liked Madonna and her poppy songs but this album is a real concept and I spent a whole summer listening to it when it came out. I think it’s her best work. I’ve also seen her live and she put on a great show.
  • Sheryl Crow – Sheryl Crow – this is just a cool, funky album with some great music on it. I don’t think she’s ever better it.
  • Natalie Imruglia – Left of the Middle – this album was constantly played on radio and Torn was everywhere. I remember hearing it in the shops on my first trip to New York. She’s never come close since, which is a shame but I’ll always appreciate this one.
  • Paramore – Brand New Eyes – I love Paramore but their song Decode really kicked off my passion for them. This album has no bad songs and My Only Exception will remain one of my favourite songs ever I think.
  • Mariah Carey – Number ones – Hero is a beautiful song and I love the message behind it. She has written and sung some beautiful music and her older stuff is more powerful in my opinion.
  • Micheal Jackson – Number Ones / Dangerous – A musical genius despite his craziness. I had tickets for his never to be London shows. My favourite songs are Man in the Mirror and Smooth Criminal.
  • Muse – Absolution – this is an amazing, soaring album. I love Time is Running Out.
  • Eva Cassidy – Songbird – her voice is amazing. Autumn Leaves makes me want to cry.
  • Joni Mitchell – Hits – I went through a stage of buying older music and along with Carole King, she has written some really powerful songs and I prefer her folky, older music to the jazz sound later on. Both Sides Now and River are my favourites.
  • Taylor Swift – Speak Now – Taylor’s songs speak to me, she writes pretty honestly about her life and spins it all into catchy country pop. My favourites are Better than Revenge and Enchanted. I’d love to see her live.

Okay I’m stopping here before I change my mind! ( Related posts my love of country music, am I a fan?; The soundtrack to my life, and my weekly Sunday Songs posts).

Why blogging? Why WordPress?

I started the blog in December 2010 basically as a hobby and an outlet for writing. As I mentioned before, my ambition is to publish a novel and a blog seemed like a great way to get me writing and talking with other writers and try to push me further towards my goal. I found some blogs from authors I liked and seemed like a good place to start.

I basically did a Goggle search and found WordPress – they claimed to offer free blogs that were easy to set up so I thought let’s give it a go. I had a nightmare with the name – all the ones I wanted were taken so I randomly typed in Little Miss Everything (I used to buy Little Miss Naughty things but I thought people might get the wrong idea about the blog from that lol) and the rest is history.

My surroundings

I live in a small town in Surrey, which is in south-east England. Surrey is a great county because it’s so central to everywhere – I live by the river, we have pretty parks and gardens, lots of cultural activities, lots of shopping and easy access to London, airports and the coast. I work in London so I get to see the differences to where I live – it’s much quieter and greener and there is far less pollution and traffic and people are slightly more friendly.

I often fantasise about moving to the real countryside, surrounding myself with fields and trees and living in a thatched-roof cottage. But I tend to see things like that through rose tinted glasses and would probably in reality hate it. I’d have to live near shops as well 🙂

Must haves for summer

  • Sandals but no flip-fops, your feet get far too dirty in London.
  • Vest tops – they go with any range of bottoms.
  • A fan for your house to keep you cool
  • Ice in the freezer
  • Pimms and lemonade
  • Sunglasses. Cheap ones are fine because it’s likely you’ll sit on them.
  • Suncream if you’re sitting in the sun. Cancer is not fun.
  • A long skirt with flowers on.
  • A big squishy handbag for all your essentials.
  • Summer music on your iPod.
  • If you have coloured hair that fades, make sure you have a hat to protect it from the sun.
  • Bronzer.
  • Good reflexes to run from wasps.
  • A garden to relax in.
  • Cropped jeans.
  • Hayfever medicine.
  • A maxi dress.

Do we have anything in common?

  1. Oh my goodness–you’ve packed a LOT of info here! I feel like I’ve known you my whole life now, LOL!

I love to travel too and hopefully I’ll publish a novel one day. 😉

  2. What a delight to read your blog this morning. Now I am thirsty! Never had Pimms, but now I must track it down and consume it.
Terrific list of summer must haves, and also great to see your food quirks. Everyone has food likes & dislikes; it’s just difficult sometimes to admit it.

      1. well, I do work/live near the kent/surrey border…! 🙂 I don’t want to dish out the exact location of moi but yeah I do receive South East Today on telly and we get both Meridian and London regions on telly…! hehe!

        xx

    1. 🙂 I’m so lucky my stop is the last one so on way home I’m okay sleeping and won’t end up somewhere crazy. Ooh another potential for London bloggers meet up!

  3. Oh my! I thought you were going to do a “series” of blog posts answering everyone’s questions and sharing about you!

You should save this and post on your “about” page so we can easily refer back to it…since you’re a part of my “ahhsome” community I may need to reference this later. 🙂

Oh, I LOVE Sheryl Crow- have all of her cds and have seen her in concert. We can’t wait until she comes back around again…

  4. I loved this post! I so love learning more about you! I had definitely wondered about your name so Vicky = Vixter makes sense. 🙂

And since you like Italian food, I’ve decided we can still be friends. 😉

  5. Now I know so much more about you!! I want to publish a novel too! I definitely agree that one fear I have in life is looking back and not be happy with it. That would be horrible. And Spice Girls…YES!! Haha!

  6. Thank you for this post, it was nice to meet real Victoria 🙂
And thumbs up for the courage, of course.
p.s. looks like we have a lot in common, including taste in music, Surrey, degree… I’m just few years older than you and drink much more (I’m moving to States, looks like I will like their drinks) 😀

      1. oops, I wanted to say I should be moving to States 🙂 No plans as such yet. But who knows, maybe one day… Looks like I can’t stay in one place for too long.

  7. That was so cool, it feels like we got to know you better. Aw, wish I was in the London area and could meet up with you guys. But if you’re ever on the West Coast let me know.

  8. Fun post!! 🙂 What is Pimms?!? I have a feeling I might like it though…
I think do-overs can only be seen as do-overs because we have already done them – we learned something in the process that we wouldn’t have learned otherwise, so if we would have a chance to do them over or not do them at all we wouldn’t know what we know now, and be generally much less wiser… does that make sense? My brain is starting to shut down tonight I fear…

  9. Well, very nice to meet you Victoria 🙂 We have very very similar taste and opinions in music! I agree with you on the Spice Girls, Alanis, Mariah, Madonna, Natalie, MJ and Sheryl. Surrey sounds like a wonderful place to be. I hope you’ll get your breakthrough as an author soon! And maybe someday….we could have a muffin or two face to face!

  10. Wow, lots of new stuff that I just learned about you–hooray, I love this stuff! If I am every in England, we are hanging out! Even if you are a tea drinker and don’t do the java 🙂 Time is Running Out is one of Muse’s best songs, in my opinion of course. Spice Girls rock as well!

  11. Yay for this post Vicky! So cool learning so much more about you. Yep, long lost sisters. 🙂 We most definitely have a lot in common far beyond music my dear! Jagged Little Pill is AWESOME and Muse is just mind-blowingly AMAZING. I myself am a tea drinker…don’t do coffee at all! I must check out Pimms since it’s getting such rave reviews. Love Italian food as well, but I do love seafood very much (with the exception of sushi)… And of course I’m wanting true love too!

Thanks for sharing so much with us chica! WOnderful to know you even better. 🙂 I’m liking the Q & A… may have to give it a shot myself!
