The sun has got his hat on

We are experiencing some gorgeous weather in the UK right now – it’s sunny and unseasonably warm, we’re even beating the Med on temperature. There’s something about the sunshine that makes everything seem better and my mood much lighter.

Yesterday I grabbed a lunch break and sat out for some sun catching. I must start bringing sun cream to work as my shoulder got a bit red oops 🙂 I also ventured to the shop to buy an ice cream. It’s hilarious that even as an adult sunshine and ice cream or lollies go hand in hand. I remember hearing the jingle of an ice cream van as a child and wanting to jump for joy. I always get a Mr Whippy with a flake if I’m buying from a van.

I got a Twister because of its combination of ice cream and ice lollie. You get the best of both worlds!

The sunshine definitely makes it hard being in an office all day. I want to outside soaking it up, drinking the good old Pimms (Have any of you tried it yet?!) and listening to some summer tunes.

Another thing I find tough is choosing outfits in the warm weather. I honestly think I’m a winter clothes person – I like my jeans and boots and knitwear and find it much easier to find something than when it gets warmer. I’m not a big fan of short skirts or dresses, I find them uncomfortable on the tube and flimsy sandals usually break in the city. I need to find a cool, comfortable but chic summer look and get away from my usual jeans / long top combo.

Maybe city shorts is the way to go, some inspiration from Alexia Chung …..

What’s your favourite ice cream / lollie? What’s your summer outfit?

  1. i love summer dressing – so much easier than winter dressing! I love wearing my skirts and only pair of shorts at the mo!! 🙂

Oh and for ice cream I adore Magnum Chocolate Temptation. Nom nom nom! 🙂

p.s. are you one of the people who are starting an 11-day holiday today?! hehe! 🙂

  2. Today I am sporting a maxi dress, pumps and a little cardi ( don’t like getting my legs out and it was a tad chilli when I left this morning ). I’m like you much happier in jeans, jumpers and boots 🙂
Back in the days when I could eat nuts I loved a Feast, now I stick to Solero if I fancy something cold.
I’ve not had the pleasure of Pimms this year although I have had a few G&T’s!

    • Ooh sounds nice. Yes it’s a bit early in the year for it to be warm first thing, I also popped on a cardi 🙂 Solero’s are a refreshing choice. I’ve never got on the G’s and T’s…

  3. This post made me so happy… 🙂 It’s been raining for what feels like forever over here, so the thought of sunshine… and icecream… and even getting a tad bit red just totally made my day! Come on, Summer!!

  4. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a lollie. I am not sure they even exist in Canada (at least not in the places I’ve been). It looks unusual to me. As a kid my choice would likely be a bowl (vs. cone) of ice cream – usually a mix of old-fashioned vanilla, and cough dough. Other faves being drumsticks, chocolate-chip “ice sandwiches” (a.k.a. chippers), etc.
Wow, your weather sounds so so lovely. We’ve hit a colder end to the season. I shall not complain; hoping that this next month will bring on much warmer temps. Dreary weather makes me quite depressed to be honest.
Hmm…I haven’t bought new clothes for 3 years now…finances are tight, tight, tight. I’m not in the position to buy new stuff, but I can’t wait for the day that I can dress in comfortable, yet stylish things for the lovely summer lazy days.

  5. I have to agree with you, winter is so much easier to dress for! Working in a hot office environment with bad air con is terrible in summer. You’ll gear up in black pants and a short sleeved shirt but its still too hot! Very frustrating!

  6. Hmmm, shorts and skirts are not my friends. I like crop pants tho and tee shirts. Lighter fabrics help too.

I LOVE orange pineapple ice cream. Yum!!!!!!

    Enjoy the lovely weather! 😀

  7. It’s been rain rain rain in NY the past few weeks. Today is actually sunny for a change! I can’t wait to break out my dresses for the warmer weather. Of course, in side the office, it is always much colder so most of the pretty pattens are covered up with sweaters to keep warm. For some reason management thinks we need to keep temperatures equal to that of a meat storage facility!
As for ice cream… I have given it up for Lent, so Sunday can not come soon enough in my mind! From the ice cream truck, I have always been a fan of the Good Humor Chocolate Eclair or Toasted Almond bars. Don’t know if you have those in the UK.
Why is there an 11-day holiday? is it so you all can see Wills & Kate’s wedding! 😉 just kidding!

    • Rain sucks! I found that in Vegas – it was freezing inside but boiling outside very weird. Aw poor you, well done for giving it up though! I haven’t heard of those ones no …. Haha we have Easter bank holidays (2)either side of weekend, 3 working days which I’ve booked off, Royal wedding which is a national holiday then the next weekend and then May day bank holiday on the Monday. Can’t wait!!

  8. We’ve been having a lot of rain here too…can’t wait for some consistently warm weather! I’m with you on the winter clothes thing…I love jeans & a sweater or jeans a tank and a cardigan with flip flops of course(that part of summer I adore!!) And my Fav ice cream: Reeses Peanut butter cup or a watermelon italian ice or grapefruit gelato!

  9. Oh, I am so jealous of your weather! I woke up to an inch and a half of snow yesterday morning here in Minnesota 😦 But, it’s supposed to be spring-like this weekend, so I will be patient. As for frozen treats, one of my favorites is Water Ice (which is basically Italian Ice… but around Philadelphia where my dad’s family is from it’s known as Water Ice… which is a bit redundant, actually, isn’t it?). Keep enjoying your nice weather, but don’t forget the sunscreen!!! 🙂

    • Snowing oh no poor you! Hope it warms up for you. Water ice – well it does what it says on the tin lol. Thank you, I shall be a good girl and slather it on don’t worry 🙂

  10. Me, on the other hand, can’t dress in winter. I don’t wear jeans, I don’t like trousers, and I find winter clothes bulky, dark, and I just can’t…
I love summer dresses, and summer makes me pretty again.
Perhaps you could give me some lessons on waring winter 🙂

  11. For summer ice cream truck treats I like Strawberry Shortcakes or Chocolate Eclairs. For summer clothes . . . well I hate my body.

  12. I love popsicles, to be honest anything on a stick has got my vote. I am not sure why, but I love food on a stick. I like winter clothes too, I like to layer. But for summer I guess capris and a light top, maybe a sheer sweater (because I’m still desperately trying to layer).

  13. Lucky you! We had a tad of sun today, but it was windy and cold and it’s going below freezing again tonight (I’m in the northeast of the US).

I like my ice cream with lots of stuff in it and on top of it, which doesn’t usually come from a truck.

    Enjoy the beautiful weather!

  14. It is not without reason that Sun is called ,”The Friend” , in Sanskrit.
I, for one, am not pretty choosy about ice cream choices,, but would prefer one with a liberal sprinkling of nuts. The other day I ate a concoction termed “Death by Chacolate” or some such stupid name. There was strawberry icecream at the bottom,, over which there was a liberal layer of hot chacolate and ove which there wee plenty of nuts. I had to give up halfway, fearful that i might vindicate its name.

  15. Me too Vix! I think I look better in boots and a coat rather than a little summer dress or shorts haha! I love all sorts of lollies! Weirdly, I don’t really like marshmallows and that’s the only sweet thing I am not keen on….
