On Saturday, I had my first blogger meet up with Surrey Gal. Meeting someone who had read this blog got me thinking about how different people in our lives see different sides of us. To family we are one person, to friends another, to colleagues another, online another. Different sides of one person. We might share certain things with some people in our lives but not with others.
We share hopes and dreams with very few people, usually because we fear ridicule or failure. It’s easier to keep things to ourselves than to risk others seeing our weakness or mistakes. For me it is writing. Very few people around me know that I want to write or that I write this blog. This is because I fear I’ll never succeed at it and don’t want others to know that. Maybe I’m missing out on their support, maybe they’ll share their dreams with me I don’t know, I’m not quite ready yet. But putting more of the real me into this blog is helping on that journey.
Sometimes we share more with people we’ve never met than those we’ve known for years. Sometimes I share more on here than I would to those around me offline. Maybe we need these separate worlds, we need the opportunity to express who we are in different ways and forums. But we have to try and not hide who we really are. Because if people can’t accept it then they shouldn’t be part of our lives. It’s an on-going journey to be the real you and to share that with everyone.
These lyrics spring to my mind …
This is real, This is me
I’m exactly where I’m suppose to be, now
Gonna let the light, shine on me
Now I’ve found, who I am
There’s no way to hold it in
No more hiding who I want to be
This is me
– Demi Lovato, This is me
I hope I get to meet more bloggers in the future, it was great fun to put a face to the writing and to talk about the people we are here in our blogs. Blogging is a route to self discovery and the final destination is sure to be am amazing one!
