On Monday night, I had a nightmare. I don’t usually have these thank goodness, I usually dream about random people from my past or excursions and yes shopping features quite a bit. But this dream was horrible, filled with spiders running everywhere. I woke up stiff from tossing and turning and frightened. And yes I am scared of spiders.

I had a look online at possible interpretations. I’m not big on looking into dreams, I’m not sure if I’m combined there is a meaning – it’s probably just your mind sorting through information but as it was so unusual for me, I thought I’d have a look.

To see a spider in your dream, indicates that you are feeling like an outsider in some situation. Or perhaps you want to keep your distance and stay away from an alluring and tempting situation. The spider is also symbolic of feminine power or an overbearing mother figure in your life. Alternatively, a spider refers to a powerful force protecting you against your self-destructive behavior. If you kill a spider in your dream, then it symbolizes misfortune and bad luck.
To see a spider spinning a web in your dream, signifies that you will be rewarded for your hard work. You will be promoted in your job or recognized for your achievement in a difficult task. Spiders are also a symbol of creativity due to the intricate webs they spin. On a negative note, spiders may indicate a feeling of being entangled or trapped in a sticky or clingy relationship. It represents some ensnaring and controlling force. You feel that someone or some situation is sucking the life right out of you. Alternatively, if a spider is spinning a web in your dream, then it could be a metaphor for the world wide web and global communication.

To see a spider climbing up a wall in your dream, denotes that your desires will be soon be realized.

To dream that you are bitten by a spider, represents a conflict with your mother or some dominant female figure in your life. The dream may be a metaphor for a devouring mother or the feminine power to possess and entrap. Perhaps you are feeling trapped by some relationship.

To eat a spider or dream that a spider is in your mouth, symbolizes your control over a situation. You are not afraid to exert your dominance in a relationship.I can’t really remember detail about the dream but I’m choosing to hope it meant I will be recognised and my desires will soon be realised. I shall furiously check my emails for agent repsonses πŸ™‚ Alternatively, it could be all done to the Halloween blog posts I keep reading!

Have you ever dreamt about spiders? Do you believe dreams have meanings?

  1. Urgh I hate spiders!

And sometimes I read up on my dreams… like last night I was dreaming about my crush – and telling a former mate I couldn’t be her friend anymore (even though I haven’t been her friend for years!); and the other night I had a dream about said crush and me having a roadtrip (and bizzarely, I can remember two of the songs that were in the dream – Rihanna’s S&M and berlin’s “take my breath away”). Not sure what they mean though. Urgh. 😦

  2. Not only have I dreamed about them, I have a serious phobia. In the past, I’ve even woken up from a nightmare, convinced spiders were in the room or crawling on me. (shudders) Interesting that they symbolize.

  3. I used to have a recurring dream about a giant spider as a child, and oddly enough the above definition makes a lot of sense. I do believe that dreams have meanings, and since you had spiders everywhere, I’d say your creative dreams are bursting forth and hopefully coming true.

  4. I think every dream has meaning and can provide insight into what you’re truly feeling that you might not necessarily want to admit to yourself.

I can’t recall that I’ve ever dreamed about spiders, though…

  5. Ugh. I hate spiders. But I never knew about this dream dictionary. I’m going to have to look at that a little closer.

I’m not really sure how I view dreams. I rarely awake remembering what I dream. But I think I lean toward the school of thought that dreams are a way of processing our emotions.

  6. I expect that some dreams are just a sorting and filing process . . . while others have deeper meaning.

Reading the dream dictionary’s explanation for dreaming of spiders is interesting. But, just like horoscopes, the conflicting definitions and meanings are subject to interpretation.

I don’t recall ever dreaming about spiders . . . if I have a nightmare about creepy critters, it’s almost always SNAKES. πŸ˜€

  7. Dream interpretation is kind of fun. HOWEVER, there’s a lot of “pop psychology” related to it. The bottom line is what the dream means to YOU. How did you feel when you woke up? If you felt anxious, then you’re anxious about something (uh, I don’t mean to sound facetious, but that’s the long and short of it, LOL!)

That being said, I found this description interesting. Thanks for sharing!

  8. This is HEAPS interesting. I loved reading it. I sometimes have unforgettably vivid dreams, amazing dreams. I like to look up their interpretation too, sometimes.

  9. I love looking up dreams (whenever I’m lucky enough to remember them, lol). Just several weeks ago I dreamt of spiders too. Sometimes interpretations fall right in line with a current event in your life, sometimes not. In any case, I find it fascinating to read them! πŸ™‚

  10. I haven’t ever dreamed of spiders specifically, that I recall off the top of my head. (I do frequently dream of unpleasant things, that being said!)

I don’t put a lot of stock in dream symbolism, although I think elements of dreams may be influenced by what’s hidden in our hearts. I do occasionally look up oddities that appear in my dreams, that being said!
