Personal, Writing

I listened to Taylor Swift on the way into work today. Always silly because one of her catchy tunes always gets stuck in my head all day! Today’s song that I can’t shake off is FEARLESS and it’s actually a pretty good theme song for me right now.

“And I don’t know how it gets better than this
You take my hand and drag me headfirst, fearless
And I don’t know why but with you I dance
In a storm in my best dress, fearless”

I recently signed up to attend a couple of writing events in London over the next couple of months that involve literary agents giving advice on getting published. This means not only meetings agents but fellow writers = networking!

I’m pretty used to networking through my job and I’m confident enough to speak to people I don’t know in a work setting but I’m nervous about these events as they’ll be the first I’ve attended as “a writer”.  It’s another step forward on my journey that has already involved having my first critique by a fellow writer and joining a writing website to put me and my book “out there”. It’s hopefully another step forward on my path to being published.

So I’m going to try to not be nervous but display my writer tag confidently and proudly. Be fearless. That’s the mantra to live by right now.

What do you need to be fearless about today?

  1. So this is the first networking you’ll be doing as yourself, rather than as a faceless worker…. I rather think you’ll do very well. Just take things one step at a time and you’ll be brilliant.

  2. I so need to be fearless about being a writer. I need to get my work critiqued (maybe, it depends how far my colleague has got with the proofreading) and whether I should go down the self-publishing route….

Oh and by the way, I’ve added your page to my links! 🙂

  3. Good for you!!
I am making some pretty big changes with who I spend time with outside my family. I tend to be waaaay tooo loyal. I am going to be fearless in making some new friends this year!

  4. Great mantra! It’s amazing how much we cripple ourselves with our own fear. Fear of failing, fear of not doing something perfect the first time… trying to be fearless can open up SO many possibilities. Thanks for posting!

  5. It always makes me a bit nervous to toot my own writing horn at conferences like that. Something that comes with lots of practice, I suppose.
    Good luck and have fun!

  6. Once you call yourself a writer you can fail as a writer, which is why I call myself an underpant-wearer. It’s hard to fail at, though I think it has been done before.

  7. I am so excited for your journey to being published. I think fearless is a good thing, I could use a bit of that. Right now my thoughts seem to be on my upcoming class. I hope for the best. I just want the best for those little ones.
